History
Hagia Sophia
Hagia Sophia was commissioned by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in AD 537 and has housed one of the world’s largest domes for centuries. After the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul in 1453, the building was converted into a mosque, gaining an iconic appearance with its four minarets. In 1934, Hagia Sophia began serving as a museum, enchanting visitors with its impressive dome and stunning mosaics. Today, this historical monument, reopened as a mosque, is known as the “Grand Hagia Sophia Mosque.”
